It really is though. By your standards, two people with a genetic disorder should not be allowed to have a child because they have a stronger chance of passing that disorder down. Your argument is that people who are closely related should legally be unable to have children because they are more likely to pass on genetic disorders. That same argument would have to logically be passed down to anyone with genetic disorder, which is a lot of people to be honest. It's also a blatant denial of fundamental human rights. You can name many logical reasons on why those in incestuous relationships shouldn't have children but that's a far cry from what should be legally done. Assuming that such relationships come to pass, why should it be illegal for these group of people to be denied the ability to have children? When these same disorders or ailments are passed down by other people who aren't related. You are literally denying fundamental human rights to individuals. Where would you even stop? Siblings? First cousins? Second Cousins? Third Cousins? It's easy to point out the logical reasons for something but that is legality are two different things. For example there is a higher rate of sexually transmitted diseases among the homosexual black community. Your argument seems to claim that legally, black homosexuals should not engage in sexual activities because they have a higher chance of contacting and spreading these STDs. The same way that those in an incestuous relationship should legally be unable to have children due to higher risks. It's denying human rights and yes, risks happen. There is a risk for everything, some high and some low. |

Again that completely depends on what disorder we're talking about you can't really blanket that, but every case of a child made through incest has a higher risk no matter what unless it's very distantly related people. And then if the parents were also born through incest they're even more likely to pass something down so leaving that to run through families is a bad idea all round whereas things like Downs Syndrome can be passed down but they don't get worse and worse each generation.
I still see no reason why this should matter, why should we care more about two people who are willing to selfishly take a massive risk rather than spare the potentially massively deformed child that comes of it a life of hell? You could say "the child doesn't exist yet" but how is that not cruel, a child isn't a toy it's a living person and they shouldn't have to subjected to horrendous illnesses just because two people wanted to have one when other options were available. It's irresponsible and I guarantee you there's not one person who had a deformed child born through incest that doesn't regret subjecting them to that.
Well I'm not a scientist but given that it's widely legal to marry your own cousin I'd imagine that might be far less dangerous and obviously anything more distant than that should be safe too. That depends on the science behind it.
Oh come on that's completely different. You can prevent the transmission of STD's in a multitude of ways, people with HIV can have sex just fine. Not to mention these things are treat or even curable. But there's no way to have a baby and reduce the risk of passing on a serious genetic disorder that's been brought in to the family through incest. The simple answer is adoption, why ruin the gene pool for selfishness when millions of kids out there are stuck in s***ty care homes desperately seeking loving parents. Marriage is not a state institution, and should be removed. What people want to do behind closed doors is their own business. Let the homos and the heteros do whatever they want. But please, don't make your sexual identity be your defining characteristic. |

What about if a little boy or girl wants to marry their teddy bear? No but yeah, I agree, if you are an adult, you should be able to marry another adult who wants to marry you. |

In NZ homosexual couples had civil unions prior to same-sex marriage being legalised. There's legal differences between the two with how assets are divided, protected, rights etc. so legalising same-sex marriage brought about equality |

I draw the line with brothers and sisters, daddy's and daughters, etc. f***ing gross... "I want you to f*** me the way you f*** mom" Even nature draws its line where adult male lions expel young male lions when they start to practice brother and sister love. |

The same could be said with same-sex. You don't see two male lions together. |

Then maybe they shouldn't? They shouldn't condemn their child to a life like that because they feel like it. Yeah if it happens it's tough s***, but that doesn't mean it's right. and that if you could prevent it, you should. Anyway, incest relationships to me are more bad when it comes to the psyche than anything. I believe it's proven to be mentally unsound to think of your sibling as a love interest, at least if you've grown up with them as traditional siblings have. And if you haven't, then well you just need to worry about inbreeding consequences. |

Okay I am going to give my full thoughts on this topic. Since we are talking about marriage and not sexual relations like Emiya already pointed out, I have to agree Ginyu's "consenting adults line" as I think as long as you have two adults that are both in consent then there is no problem if they want to get married, even if they are sister and brother. It may be eccentric and not socially acceptable, but I do not think you should simply prevent them from marrying. Now I think there are some limits. Marrying people underage should not be allowed, and neither should marrying animals. Now I have had discussions with people that are against homosexual marriage and their main argument is a slippery slope. They claim that if you allow homosexual marriage then people will allow underage marriage or animal marriages, which is simply not relevant with the issue of homosexual marriage. Now if you want to go into the topic of sexual relations then that is somewhat of a different story. I would say most people, no matter what their political, religious, or cultural backgrounds are. They are against the notion of incest. There are varying reasons in which a person might be against it. Now we have to figure what is the issue with incest, and is inbreeding a terrible outcome? What are the issues with inbreeding? What could inbreeding mean for the population as a whole? Inbreeding can lead to significant problems for the child that is the product of it. Inbreeding leads to less variety of your DNA, and that opens the door to a weaken immune system. It also makes it more likely to get genetic diseases. It is not a guarantee, however, the risk is higher, and it rises the more inbreeding happens. I believe incest should be strongly discouraged. Though I want to hear other people's thoughts. Should close relatives that are married be able to father and mother their own children? Should it be a crime, decriminalized, or completely legal? Would you want them to rather adopt or would you ban the idea of relatives marrying altogether? |

Because in the wild, that is beaten out of you by dominated male lion (father). In captivity, you'll see homosexual activity. |

That's lions. It's not uncommon for cats to inbreed. (I think that's the right word.) |
